Hi everybody :) So happy to bring you another update, For a world that functions in formulas and math, it being sacred or not, a lot of shit sure don’t be adding up! Recently, I have found myself being very interested in algorithms, analytics and things like that. I keep running into the same fact, it doesn’t matter wtf you’re doing, which premeditated formula you are applying, all that truly matters is that you are FAITHFUL, PRESENT and CONSISTENT. In my experience, nobody has given me any significant advice on how to create what I have created so far. I feel if I would’ve done it the way I’ve been advised, I probably would be doing some whole other thing and not this, not here, and not something I am so excited about all the time. The truth is, just like a snake we shed our skin, we change our minds, we grow out of spaces which once were a perfect fit, shit starts making better sense and you switch it up, because we can. There is no script and there is nobody clocking you for doing the best for yourself. I always tell people, “Don’t take advice from somebody who has never been where you are going”. For a lot of us we are the first of many to do the type of work we do, we understand our calling is not linear, there are no street signs or stop lights. Nobody has done it this way before us. Very frequently, other’s input is more disruptive than beneficial. We learn to take it with a grain of salt. We are all familiar with doing our own research and this is the only way to balance the scales. Certain pieces of information, situations, and sometimes even individuals will show up multiple times, or in super natural ways. Here is a cool story: I’ve shared on IG that I recently started making music. This so far has been incredibly healing in ways I can’t explain. And I can confidently say it found me. Okay so boom! It’s November 2020 I’m going thru a manic depressive episode and it’s pretty bad but I decide to take a trip I had already planned. Now it’s Dec 2020 I’m on a month long trip during which I threw an event with a lot of vendors and hella shit. I was busy. I’m journaling everyday and eventually I run out of expressions in English and start to write in Spanish (my first language), I had been listening to Alvaro Diaz and Selena and Marco Antonio Solis, Bad Bunny, Channel, Grupo Mojado, hella shit. So my Spanish influence is strong okay, I would read my journal entries and they sounded so poetic and melodic. I wrote my friend Will who is a professional engineer and owns a studio in Richmond a dm, like,“hey I got lyrics”. I didn’t really know Will, I had met him twice and had very brief conversations with him, nobody advised me to hit him up! Nobody knew I was writing in Spanish, nothing. So he says,"come to the studio.” During this time, I had also made friends with a portrait photographer via IG who asked me to model for him. So while I was away from home, I had scheduled a studio session and a photoshoot to look forward to when I got back okay 😎. Now it’s December 15th I had just got home from my trip, I go to the studio and on the first day I record my first song. Will’s like, “I don’t know why I agreed to record you, I think God told me to.” I was in that studio every chance I got after that. By December 21st we had recorded 3 whole songs and as my 30th birthday gift I finished recording what is now going to be my first single. On Jan 6th 2021 the portrait photographer I befriended via IG created and designed my cover art. Easy peasy. Low effort, on divine time. Fast forward February 2021 we are planning a video shoot for the song, I hit my filmmaker friend T’dre and we set a meeting but Will gets sick, we get backed up. Then when he gets back to work he has to travel, so I’m just vibing okay, no pasa nada. One night, my close friend Kevin who is also a musician texts me, “send me your tracks. I wanna musically introduce you to my friends.” I send it and he replies with people dancing to my music! Hella tight. I was so happy to see it, as this is happening Will calls me. I thought it was weird he was calling me since he was traveling. He says, “I was in the studio in LA, and they brought in some camera people, I was talking to this guy and he tells me he’s from Oakland and then I put two and two together.. I asked him ‘do you know Gabi? Do you know Gabriela? I’m supposed to have a meeting with you! ..So now we’re meeting on Thursday March 4th. I just had to tell you that, I thought it was crazy.” So Will and T’dre were on the same exact trip in the exact same studio at the exact same time.. without me! rude. LOL That Thursday came and during the meeting we talked about a choreography being ideal for the video. Okay swag, I also met a choreographer his name is Camren and he was a vendor at the event I did during the same week I first dm’d Will and made friends with the portrait photographer (who did the cover). I called Camren and he’s down to choreograph my video. Easy peasy. On divine timing. No pasa nada. 🌙🧞✨ You see how God works? I do. And it was all carefully orchestrated. Nature’s algorithm, no formula, nothing is backed up. We are all on time.
